1Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his stripes you have been healed.
He bore our sins: so that we could be whole:
The word for “sins” in the original is hamartias and it is plural in the context of this verse (1Pet 2:24). He hath borne our sins laid upon Him namely, their guilt, curse, and punishment. The healing is not limited to physical wounds, but includes moral and spiritual healing. If at all possible, a rendering of healed should suggest, “restored to health” or “made whole again.[1]
The complete Word Study Dictionary of the NT says it is the taking away the imputation and consequences of sin, the guilt and punishment phases. The intermediate Greek English Lexicon says it has to do with a failure, a fault committed by one, guilt associated with the faults, to err in mind and thinking and to be distraught. Within these realms of sin there is a deceiving power that leads humans to guilt and destruction of themselves (Heb 3:13). However when we apply the stripes that Jesus bore on the cross for our healing then we are healed and restored to health.
Lord Jesus Christ,
I thank you that you by your stripes I am healed from ___________. I accept it by faith for it is your name I pray. Amen.
